PORT OF FOZ | |
Description | A town with a seaside atmosphere and great tourist appeal, bathed by the Cantabrian sea and the mouth of the River Masma, which is also the name of the estuary that starts here. Rapadoira beach in the municipality’s new area and the fishing harbour in the oldest quarter gives shape to the seafront. The name Foz is thought to come from the word jaws “fauce”, which graphically describes the river mouth and is a reference to the wealth of this place and its Roman origins. The history of Foz is linked to the sea; ancient civilisations from before the Romans arrived by boat and the town may have been founded when the Ártabros tribe settled this area. |
